Background
Janet MacNeil is an associate in our Toronto Office. Janet received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa. Janet was called to the Bar of Ontario and New Brunswick in 2002, the Bar of Nova Scotia in 2004 and the Bar of Alberta in 2007. Prior to joining Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Janet practised for several years at major law firms in Halifax and Calgary.
Areas of Practice
- Janet is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Group. Her practice includes acting for companies in the purchase, sale and leasing of commercial properties; acting for developers in a development and planning capacity, as well as in the purchase and sale of property; acting for financial institutions with respect to lending transactions secured by real property interests, and the negotiation and preparation of leasing and licensing contracts for both landlords and tenants.

- Acts on behalf of lenders on financing transactions, including review of loan documents, review of leases and due diligence matters
- Acts on behalf of borrowers in establishing credit facilities, project financing and construction loans
- Acts for clients in connection with the leasing of commercial properties, including drafting leases for landlords, reviewing leases on behalf of tenants and negotiating lease transactions
- Aids clients in establishing and organizing corporations, partnership and limited partnerships, including drafting of shareholder agreements and limited partnership agreements
